Asylum
During his stay in the asylum of Saint-Paul in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Vincent van Gogh started to repaint images of other artists that he only knew from black and white reproductions. Inspired by this story I created Asylum (2022); a publication that consists of colourful portraits created from black and white photographic reproductions of weird looking or disabled people I collected from old books. In collabration with AI I created painterly and somewhat abstract portraits, by intuitively matching each portrait with different styles of painting.
